Whenever I spend time with a specific girlfriend of mine, we end up in the most random conversations about life, love, and friendships. You name it, we've probably discussed it at length. I'm also pretty sure we've solved most of the world's problems. Too bad the wine we consume during those convos prohibits us from remembering any of it but hey, A for effort, right? One recurring theme in our talks is how attitude is more than half the battle in life. You must always look on the bright side of things. Every cloud has a silver lining. I could go on and on with cheesy cliches but you get my point. What better way to remind myself to look for the silver lining than a pair of sassy silver shoes? Right smack dab in the middle of the week from hell, I received one of the sweetest comments from a reader and fellow blogger Mariah. She nominated me for a fun Liebster Award -- a great way to find new blogs and get to know bloggers you already follow a bit more. I couldn't be happier to participate and can't wait to pass it along to my nominees!

Here are the questions:

1.) Why did you start blogging?

I started blogging when I was working a very mundane desk job and desperately needed a creative outlet. At the time I was in a VERY corporate environment and couldn't even express myself through fashion. So nights and weekends were my time to dress however I wanted. I started to document my outfits and it grew from there.

2.) What kind of blog do you have?

My blog revolves mostly around fashion and trends, although I do post about food once in a while too.

3.) What is your favorite thing about blogging?

I love being able to express myself through my clothes. I like to write the way I would talk to you in person and I think that really helps engage my readers. I also love the blogging community. I've met so many interesting women in the year and a half since I started my blog.

4.) If you had a super power what would it be?

I wish I could fly. How awesome would it be to up and fly to work in the morning (hello, never having to take public transportation EVER again!) Or zipping out of state to visit friends and family on a whim. Ugh, if only.

5.) Top five favorite songs at the moment?

Both! I grew up in a tiny town in Central New York and loved it. But always knew I needed to be in a city. That said, I still like to escape back to the country every few months and I totally plan to move to the 'burbs once I get married and have kids.

7.) Where would you most like to visit?

Someday I hope to explore all of Europe.

8.) What are two of your goals for 2013?

My goal as a blogger is to get back to posting Monday through Friday. I also want to get involved with (or create) a foundation that mentors young girls.

9.) Who is your style icon?

Jessica Alba & Kate Middleton. Half of my closet is dedicated to trends and the other half is simple and classic.

10.) Top two favorite books you've recently read?

I'm rereading The Great Gatsby in anticipation of the newest remake of it. I also just purchased Madame Chic and can't wait to dig in.

11.) Favorite beauty product and why?

Random Facts about me:

I'm the oldest (and wisest) of three children in my family. I'm also the shortest at 5'9".

In high school, one of my nicknames was Chewbacca because I had hairy arms. That I now wax.

I need something sweet after every savory meal I eat.

I was a two-sport NCAA athlete in college: volleyball & diving.

I would love to live in another city before I "settle down" but I'm afraid I'd miss Boston too much.

I have arthritis in my right toes. Sexy, huh?

I'm kind of afraid of heights but I REALLY want to go skydiving.

I LOVE the ocean but had a scary experience body boarding in Hawaii and now I'm terrified of undertoe/drowning.

I also have an irrational fear of sinkholes.

Fresh flowers in my apartment instantly put me in a good mood.

My family is the nuttiest group of people I know. And I adore them more than anything.

Boston, You're My Home.

I moved to this city over six years ago on a whim. And in those six years I've grown to feel an immense sense of pride for Boston. That pride is stronger than ever today. While my faith in humanity has wavered a bit, I do believe that there is far more good than evil out there -- and that good will prevail.

A strange twist of fate kept me in the office yesterday and away from the finish line so I thankfully didn't witness yesterday's tragic and senseless events firsthand. But the horrific images are seared into my brain forever. Luckily, so are the images and stories of the heroes who ran toward the carnage instead of away. Like this man, who had experienced enough sadness for three lifetimes prior to yesterday, but ran to the aid of one of the seriously injured. And these people, who selflessly offered up their homes to displaced runners. It's hard to process exactly what went on yesterday and why. And how something like this could hit so close to my home away from home. But it's messages like these, that remind us that we are all Americans, united against darkness.

For those looking to help in any way they can, friends of mine have set up a donation fund for the victims. May we pray for those affected and hug our family and friends a little tighter today.

I've been putting off getting my eyes checked out for a while now. I think I'm in denial about this whole "aging" thing. So when I received an email from Warby Parker, I figured it was a sign from the eyesight Gods telling me it's time.

I've always loved how glasses looked on everyone else but never quite thought I could pull them off. I have no idea what shape looks good on me and I'm completely indecisive about whether to go with black or colored frames. Too many choices! Luckily Warby Parker as a "Home Try On" program where you can choose 5 pairs from their extensive collection to try out over the course of 5 days. They even pay for the shipping to and from your house. And they arrived in 2 days!

How did someone as indecisive as me narrow it down to 5 pairs, you ask? I utilized their "Virtual Try On" function as well. Simply upload a picture of yourself and voila, try on as many pairs as you'd like.

City Living: MiniLuxe Wellesley

I have a confession to make. Up until recently, my skincare routine involved removing my makeup before bed and (occasionally...okay maybe more like once in a blue moon) slathering on some nighttime cream. I've been lucky that I've never had any real problems with acne and for being a late 20-something female who was a lifeguard for many years, I tend to get that I look young for my age. Next confession: before this past Saturday, I was a facial virgin. I never realized what I was missing and how beneficial they are.

The lovely folks at MiniLuxe invited me into their Wellesley location to experience their Flash Trio mini facial. Not only was it relaxing and rejuvenating, but I left with a glowing face that was dewy and softer than I'd ever felt it before. Just what the doctor ordered to cure my pasty winter skin. Donna, my esthetician, was friendly and knowledgeable. She explained every step in detail and even recommended some great skincare products for me to take home.

I was totally pushing it by going bare-armed for these photos but I'm just SO sick of winter layers, it's not even funny. Anyone else with me? Oh, and the floppy hat? Oh hey guys! Sorry for being MIA lately. Between a crazy day job, traveling on the weekends, and wacky weather that can't decide what it wants to do, it's become near impossible to find time to snap pics. The good news is my schedule is calming down and the forecast is looking up so there should be plenty of outfit posts to look forward to from here on out.

Yesterday I was feeling a bit frazzled, if you couldn't tell by my outfit. But the end result was exactly what I was going for -- a little bit grungy, a little bit girly. Luckily I work in a very creative workplace that allows us to wear basically whatever we please. Add a dramatic lip and some frilly details and you're left with an outfit that's perfect for running errands or running around Rue La La.

City Living: Gust-O Blow Dry Bar

What girl doesn't love a good blowout? No, not the God-awful Pauly D type of blowout. I'm talking about the type of blowout that puts a little extra pep in a girls step. The kind that makes you toss your hair around a little bit more and just makes you feel nothing short of fabulous. That's what the lovely folks at Gust-O Blow Dry Bar did for me last night.

To say the weather was miserable would be an understatement. And after a long day of work, I couldn't WAIT to head to Newbury Street to be pampered and mingle with some other Boston bloggers. I was greeted with a glass of pink champagne and a Georgetown Cupcake (side note: most amazeballs cupcake I've ever encountered). Sara, my stylist, introduced herself and then I was swept off to be shampooed, conditioned and scalp massaged. Talk about relaxing. After a brief conversation about how I normally style my hair, Sara decided that she was going to give me a sexy, voluminous 'do. The finished product was exactly that. I couldn't WAIT to show it off.

I've always felt a special connection to the hippie era. Maybe it's the fact that I was raised in a mostly-carefree small town where we listened to Pink Floyd and The Grateful Dead. Years later, I still tap into my hippie side once in a while, as evidenced by today's outfit. I used to make fun of my mother whenever I would see pictures of her in bell bottoms. She'd always say "they were so cool back then -- I was so cool!" And here I am sporting similar pants, funny how that works. I have a feeling my future children will do the same to me some day.

Spring 2013 Hair Trends

I have enough hair for three people and unfortunately, only three ways I'm able to style it: straight, curly & the occasional top knot. So while searching for ways to update my 'do without actually having to cut it, I stumbled upon some chic and easy hair trends for the upcoming season. I'll definitely be incorporating these into my rotation!

Braids

From fishtail braids to side-swept braid/chignon combos, I love how casual AND dressed up braids can look.

Head Wraps

Perfect for the beach or boat, I will certainly be rocking this look on my imaginary yacht in Newport this summer.

Sleek Ponytails

Sexy, modern, simple. Right up my alley.

Messier Top Knots

My knots currently consist of meticulously pulling every strand back into a perfect bun. This spring it's all about letting the frizz fly (to an extent) and embracing the inner wild child that just doesn't give a f**k.

With New York Fashion Week in full swing and a blizzard looming, all I can do to get through the long day is think about warm weather clothes. I'm obsessed with what's trending this season and can't wait to get my hands on the items above. As we all know by now, emerald has been named color of the year. A color I don't typically gravitate towards but plan to work into my spring wardrobe with accessories and nail color (LOVE the idea of emerald green nails!)

Black and white is already my go-to color combination (as last seen HERE) so I'm psyched to see all the graphic black and white on the runways lately. Stripes are also huge. Never thought I'd be drawn to striped heels but this Zara pair is killer. And the number one item on my spring wish list is this gorgeous floral belted dress from Prabal Gurung's collection for Target -- debuting Sunday, February 10!

City Living: MiniLuxe Newbury Street

I love being pampered just as much as the next girl. Especially this time of year when the weather is miserable and my skin is super dry. So when MiniLuxe invited me into their Newbury Street location for a warm oil mani and pedi, I nearly screamed with happiness.

As soon as I walked in I was warmly greeted by the receptionist. The ultra clean and trendy salon was bustling with Saturday afternoon activity but I was promptly approached by the sweetest technician I've ever encountered. The warm oil mani and pedi are like your typical manicure and pedicure but instead of getting a quick slap of lotion massaged into your skin, you are treated to an extended massage with warm, soothing oil that leaves your skin feeling soft and luxurious. I could have easily fallen asleep I was so relaxed -- especially during the pedicure. And for someone who is as tightly wound as I am, that's saying a lot.

MiniLuxe also offers facials (at the Wellesley location only) and waxing, as well as an entire wall full of their wonderful products and the cutest gifts. I am kicking myself for not picking up some of the Creme Brulee lip scrub -- it's heavenly and does wonders for cracked winter lips.

I loved their huge selection of my favorites -- OPI, Essie, & Zoya to name a few.

I ended up with Essie "Bobbing for Baubles" on my fingers and "Over the Top" on my tootsies

If you're in need of a mid-winter treat, definitely head to MiniLuxe. A quick mani/pedi or facial is just what the doctor ordered to fight cold weather depression. You won't be disappointed!

It's almost February and that means I've reached my threshold of winter weather. If the snow and cold only lasted from December 1-January 31, I'd be a happy girl. I'm so sick of wearing a bulky, Michelin Man-style coat every single day and have been desperate for ways to look cute in the cold all the while staying warm. The answer? Layers, my friends. Lots of 'em.

Girls Weekend!

I'm off to West Palm Beach this weekend with a few girlfriends and I could NOT. BE. MORE. EXCITED. For one, it's a whopping 19 degrees here in Boston. And two, who doesn't love the opportunity to let loose for a couple days in a warm climate?

The outfit on the left is my casual-but-still-cute brunching/shopping/beach ensemble and the one on the right is clearly my out and about number. I've never worn a crop top but I did vow back in the spring to get my abs in shape in order to wear one. They're not necessarily in pristine shape but we'll give it a shot. I mean it's only an inch of skin, right? (I'll actually be shocked if I end up having the guts to wear it.)

Golden Globes Recap -- The Good, The Bad, and the Downright UGLY!

Awards season -- the Superbowl of fashion. Except soo much more entertaining and worthwhile. And while I must admit that I didn't watch the entire show, (hello, Downton Abbey!) I made sure to tune into the red carpet special with my popcorn in hand and sparkling grape juice in the other. (It had been a rough night the night before... don't ask.)

Let's start off with the good. Jessica Alba was best dressed in my mind. She looked STUNNING in Oscar de la Renta. Hair? Perfect. Makeup? The ideal balance between glam and girl next door. So what if her clutch looked like you would use it to dust your grandmother's antiques, that Harry Winston necklace made you forget all about it.

I'm pretty sure everyone else would argue that Kate Hudson was best dressed. While she also looked beautiful and I love the idea of a belted dress, there was just something a bit off for me. Something a little too constricting about the neckline. Hm.

Next we have Sofia Vergara. Ugh -- another sequin mermaid number with a sweetheart neckline? YAWN.

Claire Danes. I'm still convinced she had some work done on her face within the last few years but THE WOMAN JUST HAD A BABY IN DECEMBER FOR GODS SAKE. What do these Hollywood starlets have in those Starbucks cups they're always running around with? Whatever it is, I need it and I need it fast. I can only hope to look this good BEFORE giving birth. Forget about one month after. Bitch.

Oh Jennifer Lawrence, you're so pretty but this dress is so terrible. I'm sure if there were any straight men watching the Globes last night they were only doing so because your dress looked one arm-raise away from taking a tumble down your chest.

At first glance I hated this Naeen Khan dress. But after seeing other pictures of it, I've changed my mind. And Nicole really looks great. See what a healthy weight does for a girl??

Another shocker -- JLo in something that almost shows her naughty bits. Although if I had a rockin' body like hers, I'd probably want to show it off too.

Stacy Kiebler in Armani Prive was slightly disappointing but then I remembered she gets to go home with George Clooney every night. Rock on with your bad self, Stace (can I call you Stace?) It doesn't matter what you wear, you're dating one of the most gorgeous men on earth.

Amy Adams + Marchesa = LOVE. Normally when one wears a dress that perfectly matches their skin tone, it's disastrous. Not so with this one. She perfectly topped it off with an old Hollywood glam hairdo. This is what the Globes is all about, my dears.

And because we started off with the best, why not end with the worst. I can't believe these words are about to come out of my mouth, but apparently even Monique Lhuillier makes mistakes sometimes. It looks like New Year's Eve threw up all over Julianne's wedding dress. WOOF.

Finally! A post! Don't mind the disheveled backdrop for today's pictures. I had a small window before my new furniture was delivered (and truth be told it was FREEZING outside) so I decided to give you a little glimpse into my new (read: work in progress) apartment/life. Someday I will have it fully organized. Someday.

Now onto the outfit. I scored this cobalt beauty in the Zara sale right after Christmas and I've already worn it three times. I just love the unique cut of it. These leather skinnies have also been on repeat as of late. $35 for pants that look and feel amazing? Yes please! Now let's move onto the shoes... I grabbed these spur of the moment on Cyber Monday. I vowed I wouldn't do any shopping that day but let's be honest. That's like saying you won't eat any cookie dough while baking.

Goodbye 2012, Hello 2013!

As we approach a brand new year, it's only natural to reflect on what the past year has handed us. I sit here, writing this post, thankful for all of the wonderful things that came into my life this year. A new job that I love, new friends that have already turned into family, and many, many other things that would bore you beyond belief. Like most people, I've also had my fair share of pain over the last 12 months. But how's that saying go? "In order to make it to the rainbow, you must make it through the rain." Corny? Possibly. But it really resonates with me lately. I'm a firm believer in that everything happens for a reason. It's hard to sit back and let life happen as it may (and I'm certainly guilty of trying to control every aspect of mine), but for 2013, I hope to enjoy every step of the way. The good times and the bad. And I wish every one of you the happiest and healthiest of years. Thanks for stopping by every so often to check out my humble little blog. Now that the craziness of the holidays is behind us, I hope to get back into posting more regularly. Be safe tonight and Happy New Year!

Holiday Plaid + Sequins

I guess there are worse things than having multiple holiday parties to attend, right? Lately I've actually been looking forward to Mondays (I know, what's wrong with me?!) because it means I can get through my work day and potentially go to bed at a decent time. Working in retail means this time of year is insanely busy and the days have been blending into one another. That's great for getting to the end goal of a little vacation time with the fam, but really bad for sleeping schedules and stress levels.

Last week Rue La La had their annual holiday party and we all got to enjoy a night off to dance and let loose. While some let loose a little more than others, it was a night enjoyed by all. Our dress code was "festive casual" so I decided to mix a little holiday plaid with some festive sequins. Add a red lip and a pearl necklace and voila! I was instantly back in the Christmas spirit.

My fellow blogger friend Linds opted for another holiday color scheme I love, white and blue. How stunning does she look?
