Holiday Dressing

Holiday Dressing

My company holiday party is a few short weeks away and I can't help but daydream about this amazing skirt by SKOT for the occasion. Paired with a mohair sweater and some classic pumps, this outfit is not only perfect for the holidays but each piece would get plenty of wear outside of the season. And is this BaubleBar necklace to die for or what? Definitely a bit on the dressy side but could also look great with a t-shirt and boyfriend jeans. What do you wear to your holiday gatherings?

BostInno Fall Lookbook

Leather Peplum Top: Bobbles & Lace; Collared Blouse: J.Crew Factory; Jeans: JBrand; Necklace: Bobbles & Lace; Clutch: Bobbles & Lace; Wedges: Pour la Victoire via RueLaLa; Rings: Stella & Dot

When BostInno asked me to put together a look for fall that I'd wear for a night out in Back Bay, I knew right away I wanted to incorporate my favorite fall staple: leather (faux, vegan or the real deal!) I softened the look up by adding a white blouse underneath and a detailed necklace. My wedges make navigating the brick and cobblestone sidewalks a cinch! Head over to BostInno.com to see MY LOOK and check out the full Fall Lookbook!

In a few short hours I'll be en route to Newport, RI for a little vacay with the girls. Above are my picks for properly celebrating our beautiful country and looking stylish at the same time!

Clockwise from top left: Zara Dress / Tibi Tank / Red Chucks / Kate Spade Watch / H&M Linen Pants / Kate Spade Wedges / L*Space Bikini / Nautical Towel / J.Crew Striped Linen Shorts / Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC

Mad Men Style

Mad Men Style

Sooo I don't actually watch the show {yet} but I've always loved the glam, retro style that Mad Men embodies. So clean and polished. I also love that it's become incredibly mainstream as of late... Thank you, Banana Republic. My office is hosting a Mad Men style day tomorrow where all are encouraged to dress in their best Don Draper and Betty Francis get-ups. Should I go with the dress, neckerchief and gloves or the cropped pants, cat eye glasses and cardi set?

Outfit 1: TopMan Vest / Neil Barrett Shirt & Tie / TopMan Suit Pants / Black Penny Loafers / Salvatore Ferragamo Watch

Outfit 2: TopShop Jacquard Dress / Neckerchief / Tights / Lanvin Short Gloves / KORS Michael Kors Strappy Heel / Structured Bag / Red Lipstick

L's Spring 2013 Wish List

L's Spring 2013 Wish List

With New York Fashion Week in full swing and a blizzard looming, all I can do to get through the long day is think about warm weather clothes. I'm obsessed with what's trending this season and can't wait to get my hands on the items above. As we all know by now, emerald has been named color of the year. A color I don't typically gravitate towards but plan to work into my spring wardrobe with accessories and nail color (LOVE the idea of emerald green nails!)

Black and white is already my go-to color combination (as last seen HERE) so I'm psyched to see all the graphic black and white on the runways lately. Stripes are also huge. Never thought I'd be drawn to striped heels but this Zara pair is killer. And the number one item on my spring wish list is this gorgeous floral belted dress from Prabal Gurung's collection for Target -- debuting Sunday, February 10!

What's on your wish list for spring?

Girls Weekend!

Girls Weekend!

I'm off to West Palm Beach this weekend with a few girlfriends and I could NOT. BE. MORE. EXCITED. For one, it's a whopping 19 degrees here in Boston. And two, who doesn't love the opportunity to let loose for a couple days in a warm climate?

The outfit on the left is my casual-but-still-cute brunching/shopping/beach ensemble and the one on the right is clearly my out and about number. I've never worn a crop top but I did vow back in the spring to get my abs in shape in order to wear one. They're not necessarily in pristine shape but we'll give it a shot. I mean it's only an inch of skin, right? (I'll actually be shocked if I end up having the guts to wear it.)

What are your plans for the long weekend? Whatever they are, enjoy and I'll see everyone on Tuesday!

Essie Fall 2012

Essie Fall 2012

One of the best things about transitioning from summer to fall is being able to incorporate darker colors into my wardrobe. Essie's new collection has me wishing August away and diving head first into the warm jewel tones of autumn. Whether you fancy a gorgeous oxblood shade on your fingers or lean more towards a neutral "greige", there's something for everybody.

I personally can't wait to pair jade nails with maroon skinny jeans and a beige leather jacket, similar to the picture I created above.

What color are you particularly stoked about wearing this season?

Trend to Try: Printed Denim

Printed Denim

Move over, colored denim. There's a new sheriff in town.

Printed jeans are everywhere right now. Whether you fancy polka dots, floral, or even brocade, there is a design for everyone. The key to rocking this bold trend is to balance it out with simple, classic pieces.

The three pairs featured above are a few of my favorites. I'm loving anything floral right now but come fall, I'm excited to try a pair in a subtle animal print. (Isn't that an oxymoron?)

Are you loving the printed denim trend? What pair would you wear?

Saturday Style

Saturday Style

In true Friday fashion, I'm finding it impossible to focus on anything other than my weekend plans. So far, those plans consist of hitting the beach with my old roomie and taking a drive up to Marblehead to explore some of the views (read: bars). The oh-so-reliable meteorologists are forecasting another scorcher tomorrow so a lightweight and comfortable outfit is a must. I scored this cute embroidered top at the Zara sale last week and will be pairing it with my trusty cutoffs and some fun flats. Colorful accessories round out the look.

What are your plans for the weekend? Do you plan your outfits days in advance like me?

See you Monday!

Stars and Stripes Forever

Stars & Stripes Forever

With the 4th of July just a few days away, I thought it was only fitting to showcase some of my favorite pieces for this festive holiday. Sure, any old red, white & blue outfit will do. But why not have a little fun and express your patriotism with some stars and stripes?

Clockwise from top left:

What will you be wearing for the 4th? Would you wear any of these pieces?

Father's Day Gift Ideas

Father's Day Gift Ideas

Fathers... the most simple souls, yet the hardest to shop for. Or at least that statement pertains to my father. Yes, he'd be perfectly happy with a card and an "I love you", (or a zero balance on my credit card... he's in banking). But now that I'm an adult I like to give him gifts I know he wouldn't buy himself.

So here's my list of father's day gifts perfect for the Dad who has everything he needs in life... but deserves a little more.

Clockwise from top left:

Love you Daddy-O! Happy Father's Day!

Trend to Try: Lace Dresses

Trend to Try: Lace Dresses

Lately I've been seeing lace dresses everywhere. Well, let me rephrase: lately I've been seeing cute lace dresses everywhere. And though I've yet to purchase one, I've narrowed it down to three options, pictured above.

First we have the Neon Lace Flippy Dress from Topshop. If I was looking to kill two trends with one dress, this would be the perfect option. I bet the picture of this dress doesn't do it justice. I can totally envision myself wearing this for a girls night out, dancing the night away with my favorite girls. Plus at $92, the price point isn't bad.

Moving onto the next option, we have the Lucille Dress from J.Crew. I love the classic and flattering shape of this one and know that I would get a ton of use out of it. I like the yellow version but the navy is so chic and could be worn into the fall as well. It's ideal for weddings, cocktail parties, and even days at the office. For $188, price per wear would make this dress 100% worth it.

Last but not least we have the Katya Lace Dress by Tibi. Oh, Tibi [insert exaggerated sigh here]. Why is everything I adore in this world made by you and therefore just out of my price range? The classic shape and beautiful cobalt blue color make me weak in the knees for this dress. The lace is so feminine and pretty. I've been known to justify worse purchases so maybe, just maybe this dress will make its way to my closet.

Would you wear a lace dress like these? If you were me, which one would you buy?

Mixing Patterns: What Works?

Mixing Patterns: What Works?

This trend has been splattered all over the runways and magazines for months. Well years, really, but it's made an especially big splash in the fashion world as of late. The problem is that what works on the runway doesn't necessary translate into real life. Throwing any two (or three) patterns together does not an outfit make. Write that down.

For me, having similar colors in both pieces is an absolute must. While I loved Refinery29's mixed pattern tutorial featuring the leopard cardi and polka dot tunic, it doesn't follow my aforementioned rule. Therefore I would never feel comfortable pulling it off.

The second outfit is right up my alley. Fun and practical (in mixing pattern terms, of course) and I might even be able to rock them at the office. Which is always a plus.

The third is very close to what Annie from The Other Side of Gray is wearing today. I love how she paired the floral cardigan with the bold stripes. It works (and well, might I add) because it's balanced and anchored down by simple but cute skinny black jeans.

What are your thoughts on this trend? Would you wear outfits like these or do you think they evoke too much of a "hot mess" vibe?

Outfit Inspiration: Mother's Day Brunch

Mother's Day Brunch

The most important person in a girl's life is, more often than not, her mother. That statement certainly applies to me. My mother is the strongest person I know and I'm so happy to be able to call her one of my best friends. I hope to one day be half the person she is!

So ladies, do something special for your mother (or mother figure) this weekend. Show her how much she means to you. And look fabulous while doing so!

For Mom: Milly Lettie Dress, Christian Louboutin Heels, Stella & Dot Bangle
For You: J.Crew Cha Cha Dress, Zara Heels, Kate Spade Necklace

Both outfits are on-trend without being too "out there". I love the feminine shape of the Milly dress paired with a classic pump. And the J.Crew dress is in this season's hottest color. I styled it with the Zara pump to give the outfit a fun twist.

What do you think? Which one is your favorite?

Recent Finds

Recent Finds

I thought being disconnected from the internet for over a week while I was on vacation would be a nice change. And it certainly was. But in the few days since I've been back online, I've made up for lost time. That resulted in my wallet taking a slight beating. Thank you online shopping addiction, my closet thanks you.

These are just a few pieces from my recent shopping haul. I love them so much I couldn't wait to share!

If you must buy one item from this set, I highly suggest the Zara heeled sandals. I have the orange/beige/black version and I have already worn them with countless outfits that I figured I'd pick up another pair. They are universally flattering and can add a pop of color to any outfit.

I'm still on the hunt for the perfect cuffed skinny jeans. If you have any recommendations, please pass them along!

Flowers, flowers, everywhere

Flowers, flowers, everywhere

1.) D&G Floral Print Cotton Pant

I'm totally in love with floral prints right now. Together, these pieces look like they belong on the walls of your grandmother's guest bedroom that hasn't seen the light of day since 1963. But separately, and paired with other simple pieces to anchor the look, you have a perfect, on-trend outfit.

I can't wait to pair the Topshop bustier with a high-waisted pleated skirt. I also love the J.Crew floral peplum shirt with a pair of white straight-leg jeans. The jean shorts are great for a casual day on the beach when paired with a tank and cute flat sandals.

Do you love the floral trend? How would you wear these pieces?

Everybody Loves an Irish Girl!

St. Patty's Day
In this set:
Clockwise from left

St. Patrick's Day is one of those fun holidays where even those who aren't Irish enjoy dressing the part. You can go all out, or as I like to do, incorporate one or two green pieces into my outfit.

Being part of the St. Patty's Day fun doesn't mean you have to sacrifice style! Mint denim is everywhere right now. What's better than showcasing them on a holiday where even the beer is green?

Don't want to resemble the Green Monster? Pop an emerald statement necklace over an everyday outfit and you're instantly back in the game.

Erin go Bragh!

Vacation Daydreaming

Punta Cana

There I go again. Daydreaming away on a Friday and planning outfits for my vacation. Are you sick of hearing about it yet? I created this set on Polyvore as a way to put together pieces I already own, and imagine how they'd look lounging alongside a beautiful beach with a fruity umbrella drink in my hand.

I love the look of high-waisted shorts paired with a tie-waist chambray tank. The scalloped edge of the shorts (which I LOVE) might make this outfit a bit young looking, but I think pairing them with the leopard trim Sam Edelman Gigi brings them back to age appropriate for me.

I figure you always need one fairly dressy outfit for a nice dinner or hitting the town. For me, that will be a black maxi dress, those adorable Zara colorblock heels and a colorful Stella & Dot necklace

What are your vacation outfit essentials?

Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!
